Note from the Executive Director
World Music/CRASHarts brings together culturally diverse artists and audiences in groundbreaking performances to foster discovery, celebration, and participation in the arts. We continue to offer a platform that challenges cultural preconceptions, inspires curiosity, and promotes new and exceptional artists. In today’s political climate, our mission is as relevant as it was 27 years ago. We present international artists that reflect greater Boston’s diverse communities and offer a common meeting ground where audiences can celebrate and share cultural experiences through the arts. Through the recent completion of a new five-year strategic plan, World Music/CRASHarts maintains its commitment to presenting inclusive and accessible cross-cultural experiences that encourage diverse audiences to come together as a community.
Central to our future vision and direction is bold artistic risk-taking that provides a platform for performing artists of all genres to explore and share the creation of new works. We have made a commitment to develop a commissioning program which will generate new works from an array of diverse international, national, and regional artists by investing in new artistic expressions and innovative collaborations. As part of our artistic vision, World Music/CRASHarts looks to expand our festival offerings and develop new signature events for Boston. We are also experimenting with new models of community engagement using virtual technology and offering more opportunities for our members to participate in art-making and the creative process through community events, dialogue, and professional development.
After more than 25 years of presenting music and dance from the far and near corners of the globe, we are evaluating how we communicate who we are, what we do, and why we do it. We have hired branding experts Minelli, Inc. to position us for the next stage of our organizational growth. We hope that you, our loyal members and appreciative audience, will continue to support us on this journey and trust our vision of artistic excellence as we embrace the diversity of our pluralistic society and offer you a contemporary look at today’s global community.
